🇯🇵 Helping you explore Japan beyond the crowds
✨Off the beaten path & Ghibli vibes
🌸 Hidden gems, foodie eats, & boutique stays

This is the Japan that most people miss. 🇯🇵✨
It’s easy to follow the same route — the big cities, the viral spots, the places everyone says you have to see.
And yes, they’re impressive… but they can also feel overwhelming, crowded, and surprisingly similar after a while.
The Japan that stayed with me looked different:

It was walking through quiet castle towns like Ozu, where time feels slower and the charming streets are nearly empty.
It was soaking in peaceful ryokans in places like Kurokawa Onsen, surrounded by nature and stillness.
It was driving through the countryside, stopping at small local restaurants where meals are simple, affordable, and made with so much care.
It was discovering hidden shrines, neighborhood temples, and moments that weren’t planned — but became the most memorable parts of the trip.

In these places, Japan feels more personal. More human. More alive.

What people don’t realize is, these towns, shops, and communities want to be experienced. They’re just waiting for travelers willing to go a little further.
So why do we miss the best parts of Japan for the most popular ones?

Go far enough away from Tokyo… and you’ll disc Go far enough away from Tokyo… and you’ll discover the hidden magic of Japan. 🇯🇵✨

Most travelers stick to the same route — Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka.

But some of the most unforgettable places in Japan are the ones that require a little more curiosity to find.

If you’re willing to go beyond the typical tourist stops, Japan starts to feel completely different — quieter, more intimate, and honestly… a little unreal.

🏯 Ozu
This restored castle town feels like stepping into another era. Wooden merchant houses line the river, locals greet you as you wander the streets, and the atmosphere is peaceful in a way you rarely feel in bigger cities. It’s the kind of place where you slow down and actually experience daily life in Japan.

♨️ Kurokawa Onsen
Tucked in the mountains of Kyushu, this tiny hot spring village feels straight out of a dream. Lantern-lit streets, steaming outdoor baths, and traditional ryokan make it one of the most atmospheric places in Japan. Walking through town in the evening feels almost magical.

🌿 Yakushima
A wild, moss-covered island that inspired the forests of Princess Mononoke. Ancient cedar trees, misty hiking trails, waterfalls, and coastal wildlife make this one of the most surreal landscapes in Japan.

These are the places where Japan feels quiet, mysterious, and deeply alive.

✨ Save this for your future Japan trip

Cherry blossom season is almost here… and while Cherry blossom season is almost here… and while everyone rushes to Kyoto, there’s a quieter, slower way to experience traditional Japan.

If you’re craving thatched roofs, mountain air, and blossoms without shoulder-to-shoulder crowds — this is your place.

📍Saiko Iyashi-no-Sato Nenba sits near Lake Saiko with views of Mount Fuji — and the drive up during sakura season is just as beautiful as the destination itself.

Yes, you’ll need a car. And yes — it’s absolutely worth it.
This restored village is made up of traditional thatched-roof houses, and each one offers a different experience:
• Wander from house to house — every one is a shop, gallery, or cultural space• Try traditional crafts like pottery and weaving• Rent a kimono and walk the village for photos• Relax in a tea house or enjoy a traditional Japanese meal

Instead of rushing through temples, you can actually slow down here.Take your time. Breathe. Hear the wind. See the blossoms without fighting a crowd.

This is the kind of place that changes the feel of your trip.
📤 Send this to your Japan travel buddy 📌Or save it for your upcoming trip — because Kyoto will be packed… but this won’t be.

This Japan itinerary saves you weeks of planning. This Japan itinerary saves you weeks of planning. 🇯🇵✨

After traveling to Japan multiple times, here’s what I’ve learned:the order and balance of your itinerary matters more than how many places you cram in.

That’s why this 14-day plug-and-play route works so well 👇

🌸 Days 1–5: TokyoBig energy, endless neighborhoods, incredible food, and culture shock in the best way. This is where you adjust, explore, and fall in love with Japan’s rhythm.
While in Tokyo, try to avoid the super touristy areas and wader neighborhoods that are less common.

🌸 Days 6–9: Kansai Area(Kyoto… with intention)Avoid super popular places destinations. Visit some of the temples and historic streets — but slow it down.My personal take: you can skip Osaka on your first trip. After Tokyo, it often feels redundant.A smaller town will give you contrast, not more crowds.

🌸 Days 10–14: Kofu / Mount Fuji regionThis is where most itineraries fall short — and where yours gets good.Quiet streets. Local food. Onsen. Mountain views.Japan at a human pace.

✨ Want to swap things around?Instead of Osaka or Kyoto, consider places that actually change the feel of your trip:– A preserved mountain town like Takayama– A culture-rich city like Kanazawa– Or a nature-forward base in Nagano

That’s the difference between checking boxes and having memories you still think about years later.

Japan isn’t just Tokyo–Kyoto–Osaka. And once you see what’s beyond that route… it’s hard to travel any other way ✨

This is the most personal thing I’ve ever posted This is the most personal thing I’ve ever posted.

My husband and I started Chasing Japan Vibes after our honeymoon in Japan. We fell in love with the Japan most people never see; the small towns, local restaurants, little shops, hidden shrines, and quiet ryokans.

We realized these small businesses were being overlooked while everyone rushed to the same crowded cities.

We wanted to change that.

I paused my UX career, went all in, and it was working — until life had other plans. Financial setbacks, survival mode, and a pregnancy in the middle of it all.

There were moments I where I felt like my dream was slipping away, but I refuse to let it go. Because now it’s bigger than just us. I want my child to grow up watching their parents build something meaningful.

This is my @stanforcreators Dare to Dream entry. 🇯🇵✨

If I win, I’m investing in a filming trip to capture Japan’s hidden regions, streamline the business to sell digital travel guides and curated experiences with my UX background, in addition to partnering with boutique hotels that deserve more visibility.

Thank you for taking the time to hear my story and considering me for this challenge. It means more than you know. 🇯🇵✨

From a quiet “yes” on one knee…
to building a life, traveling the world, and growing something even bigger together.

Somewhere along the way, Japan became part of our story too. We started Chasing Japan Vibes as a place to share our love for Japan — the slow moments, hidden places, and meaningful experiences. 🇯🇵✨

Now we’re entering a new chapter — one we never could’ve planned, but feel so grateful for.
Soon, we’ll be exploring Japan with this little one beside us!

I thought I’d never say this…but you don’t h I thought I’d never say this…but you don’t have to travel to Japan to get your Japan fix and reset.

We didn’t make it to Japan this winter — so we found a quiet Japanese-style escape right here in Los Angeles.

New Year’s Eve at the @miyakohotel felt like hitting pause.

A spacious room, a deep soaking tub I happily disappeared into, and that calm, intentional Japanese hospitality that instantly slows you down.

Dinner at Ise-Shima was comforting and thoughtful, and the next morning? A Japanese breakfast buffet with all my favorites — yes, even natto 🥢

It felt familiar, grounding, and exactly what we needed.

This stay reminded me that sometimes the reset you’re craving isn’t about going far — it’s about choosing experiences that let you rest, reconnect, and be present.

✨ Save this for when you need a Japan-style reset without leaving LA.

Have you ever done a staycation that felt like a real escape?
