🇯🇵 Helping you explore Japan beyond the crowds
✨Off the beaten path & Ghibli vibes
🌸 Hidden gems, foodie eats, & boutique stays

Most people add Osaka by default… Japan has so Most people add Osaka by default…

Japan has so many unique cities with fewer tourist. If you’re looking for contrast in your itinerary, there are better options.

✨ Fukuoka
One of Japan’s best food cities with a relaxed, coastal feel.
Famous for yatai street food stalls along the river (ramen, yakitori, late-night bites)
Gateway to Kyushu with easy access to hot springs and countryside towns
Laid-back energy with beaches, parks, and fewer international tourists

✨ Nagoya
Underrated, central, and deeply local.
Known for its bold regional cuisine — miso katsu, hitsumabushi (eel), tebasaki wings.
Easy base for day trips to Takayama, Shirakawa-go, and the Japanese Alps
A more authentic city feel without the intensity of Tokyo crowds

✨ Yokohama
A slower, more scenic extension of Tokyo.
Beautiful waterfront views, night skyline, and harbor walks
Home to one of Japan’s largest Chinatowns + diverse food scene.
Perfect balance of city + calm, just 30 minutes from Tokyo

✨ Kagoshima
A completely different side of Japan — wild, natural, and powerful.
Views of the active volcano Sakurajima, constantly smoking across the bay.
Access to nature experiences and nearby islands like Yakushima.
Warm southern climate, rich history, and a slower, grounded pace of life

These places don’t just replace Osaka, they add variety, depth, and a completely different perspective to your trip. Again, you can get away from the tourist crowds and go deeper with your Japan travel experience.

Most people will go against this… I honestly be Most people will go against this…

I honestly believe that skipping the golden route on your Japan trip is totally worth it.

Or at least, do other places around the golden route. Even for you are traveling for the first time.

On my first Japan trip, Kyoto was a total let down and felt more touristy than I expected. I loved other cities and small towns much better.

A must do for anyone is staying in a ryokan!

The experience of being pampered, wearing a yukata, soaking in a onsen, and eating delicious food is far worth the experience than trying to save money for every part of your travel.

I recommend at least one night, and if you are in a smaller town, it’s more reasonable.

Lastly the best food experiences are the small spots that you wander into that only the locals visit. Avoid the trendy spots on social media where you have to wait in line and you’d be glad you did.

💬 I’m curious what you think. Let me know in the comments

I hear it all the time… “I want to go to Tokyo I hear it all the time…
“I want to go to Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka so I don’t miss anything.”

But here’s the truth…Those three cities make up a tiny fraction of Japan.

Japan has 47 prefectures — and Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka are just 3 of them (~6%).

That means over 90% of Japan looks completely different.

It’s quiet castle towns like Ozu
Mountain onsen villages like Kurokawa Onsen
Wild nature in places like Yakushima

You get less crowds, more culture, and deep connection.

So no… you’re not missing out by skipping places.
You’re missing out by only going to them.

📌Save this for your Japan trip…

💬Would you skip one major city to experience a small town instead?

For travelers that love books and slow, intentiona For travelers that love books and slow, intentional moments…

Not every hotel in Japan needs to be luxury or over-the-top. Sometimes, the best stays are the ones that feel calm, simple, and thoughtfully designed.

Lamp Lights Books Hotel is one of my favorite hotels in Japan.

The reasons why I love this hotel:
- A cozy café where you can sit for hours with tea or coffee
- Less than $100 per night (some as low as $60)
- Shelves of books you can borrow during your stay. (Though most in Japanese, you still can find some fun english books)
- Clean, modern rooms that feel quiet and intentionally designed
- Usual Japanese toiletry amenities along with laundry on-site

They have 3 locations: Nagoya, Fukuoka, and Sapporo.

Perfect for getting off the beaten path of Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto.

Most importantly, the hotels are great in neighborhoods that are walking distance to other shops, restaurants, convenience stores, and train stations.

Lamp Lights Books Hotel is the kind of place you come back to after a full day of exploring — and actually want to stay in.

This is the Japan that most people miss. 🇯🇵✨
It’s easy to follow the same route — the big cities, the viral spots, the places everyone says you have to see.
And yes, they’re impressive… but they can also feel overwhelming, crowded, and surprisingly similar after a while.
The Japan that stayed with me looked different:

It was walking through quiet castle towns like Ozu, where time feels slower and the charming streets are nearly empty.
It was soaking in peaceful ryokans in places like Kurokawa Onsen, surrounded by nature and stillness.
It was driving through the countryside, stopping at small local restaurants where meals are simple, affordable, and made with so much care.
It was discovering hidden shrines, neighborhood temples, and moments that weren’t planned — but became the most memorable parts of the trip.

In these places, Japan feels more personal. More human. More alive.

What people don’t realize is, these towns, shops, and communities want to be experienced. They’re just waiting for travelers willing to go a little further.
So why do we miss the best parts of Japan for the most popular ones?

Go far enough away from Tokyo… and you’ll disc Go far enough away from Tokyo… and you’ll discover the hidden magic of Japan. 🇯🇵✨

Most travelers stick to the same route — Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka.

But some of the most unforgettable places in Japan are the ones that require a little more curiosity to find.

If you’re willing to go beyond the typical tourist stops, Japan starts to feel completely different — quieter, more intimate, and honestly… a little unreal.

🏯 Ozu
This restored castle town feels like stepping into another era. Wooden merchant houses line the river, locals greet you as you wander the streets, and the atmosphere is peaceful in a way you rarely feel in bigger cities. It’s the kind of place where you slow down and actually experience daily life in Japan.

♨️ Kurokawa Onsen
Tucked in the mountains of Kyushu, this tiny hot spring village feels straight out of a dream. Lantern-lit streets, steaming outdoor baths, and traditional ryokan make it one of the most atmospheric places in Japan. Walking through town in the evening feels almost magical.

🌿 Yakushima
A wild, moss-covered island that inspired the forests of Princess Mononoke. Ancient cedar trees, misty hiking trails, waterfalls, and coastal wildlife make this one of the most surreal landscapes in Japan.

These are the places where Japan feels quiet, mysterious, and deeply alive.

✨ Save this for your future Japan trip

Cherry blossom season is almost here… and while Cherry blossom season is almost here… and while everyone rushes to Kyoto, there’s a quieter, slower way to experience traditional Japan.

If you’re craving thatched roofs, mountain air, and blossoms without shoulder-to-shoulder crowds — this is your place.

📍Saiko Iyashi-no-Sato Nenba sits near Lake Saiko with views of Mount Fuji — and the drive up during sakura season is just as beautiful as the destination itself.

Yes, you’ll need a car. And yes — it’s absolutely worth it.
This restored village is made up of traditional thatched-roof houses, and each one offers a different experience:
• Wander from house to house — every one is a shop, gallery, or cultural space• Try traditional crafts like pottery and weaving• Rent a kimono and walk the village for photos• Relax in a tea house or enjoy a traditional Japanese meal

Instead of rushing through temples, you can actually slow down here.Take your time. Breathe. Hear the wind. See the blossoms without fighting a crowd.

This is the kind of place that changes the feel of your trip.
📤 Send this to your Japan travel buddy 📌Or save it for your upcoming trip — because Kyoto will be packed… but this won’t be.
